Pierre Boulez conducts Mahler 13 CD boxset plus booklet. CD number 2 is missing from this 14 CD set hence my description of 13 CDs. This set remains a fascinating alternative vision, a modernist vision.
Reviewed in Spain on 26 February 2021. Pierre Boulez's cycle of symphonies by Mahler for Deutsche Grammophon, which begins with the Sixth with the Vienna Philharmonic recorded in 1994 and ending with the Adage of the Tenth with the Cleveland Orchestra recorded in 2010, has polarized the opinion and has also been a source of great astonishment. Boulez's progressive thought of Mahler as the predecessor of musical modernism in the twentieth century, instead of Mahler as a late romantic, sheds a very revealing light. The ensemble features the best orchestras: Chicago Symphony Orchestra (numbers 1 and 9), the Vienna Philharmonic (numbers 2, 3, 5, 6, Das Lied), the Cleveland Orchestra (numbers 4, 7, 10) and the Staatskapelle Berlin No.
Also included is the previous version (Totenfeier) of the first movement of the Second Symphony. It also includes Das Lied von der Erde, Lieder eines fahrendes Gesellen, Rückert-Lieder and Kindertotenlieder, all with the best soloists such as Christine Schäfer, Anne Sofie von Otter, Juliane Banse, Magdalena Kozena, Thomas Quasthoff, Violet Urmana, Michael Schade. This Mahler is indisputably from the 20th century, an early modernist at the height of Debussy and Stravinsky. Among the directors, this makes Boulez the antithesis of Leonard Bernstein. All discs have been checked and are in near mint condition. The cardboard sleeves and booklet are in excellent condition. The outer cardboard box shows minimal signs of wear. The photos form part of the description please message me if you need any further information. I have hundreds of new and used classical CDs being listed.
