Considered the definitive recording of Wagner's "Der Ring Des Nibelungen" and one the best, if not'the' most historical version in classical music, is now available here in this wonderful assembly of associated material and discs in a variety of formats. There's one slight mark: otherwise this fabulous edition is, in my view, all but immaculate. The BluRay's been part-played about three times. The sound is excellent: surpassing, I think, that of HiRes downloads for space, authenticity, and detail.
This is a special collection of Richard Wagner's four opera masterpiece conducted by Sir Georg Solti, produced by John Culshaw. The BluRay audio is a revelation, and, depending on your equipment, opens up more space and reality in the soundstage. It's a collectors item: a joy to own and listen to, not least because there are so many additional accoutrements provided to browse through and enjoy-all illustrated in the photographs. The Music: 16 CD's of the four operas plus Deryk Cooke's renowned description of this masterpiece.
AND the BLURAY Audio disc. The Libretti: a beautiful way to listen and develop one's appreciation of the score. The Guides: including a DVD of a documentary of the making of this famous recording. John Culshaw: Detailed articles by the producer on the challenges they faced and how they produced such outstanding results!
